Jiri Galatu, 55 years old, a herdsman in Buridu Gacha of Uxinzhao township, Uxin Banner, Ordos. In 1984, he led his family of four to start sand governance on his contracted 700-mu land. With over 30 years of hard work of treating the sand dunes one by one, they have expanded the fragmented 700-mu pasture into over 12,000 mu extending over 10 kilometers. To protect the pasture, they only raised about 160 sheep despite the capacity was over 700.
